When a single panel will fix it, when a full replacement makes sense, and what a frameless upgrade involves.
A cracked or chipped shower screen is one of those problems that's easy to ignore — until it isn't. Shower screens are made of toughened glass under permanent stress, and a crack or deep chip can lead to the whole panel giving way suddenly. Here's how to decide what to do.
Treat any cracked shower screen panel as a replace-now job. Toughened glass doesn't crack gradually — once its surface is compromised, the entire panel can shatter without warning. Until it's fixed, avoid bumping the damaged panel and keep the door movement gentle.
In these cases a glazier can measure the damaged panel, have a new toughened panel made to size, and swap it in — usually the most cost-effective fix.
If you're replacing the whole screen, it's worth considering a frameless or semi-frameless upgrade. Frameless screens use thicker (10mm) toughened glass with minimal hardware — easier to clean, brighter, and a noticeable lift for the whole bathroom. See our shower screen services for the options.
